Business FAQ

What is a the School House business opportunity?

The School House Curriculum Development Centre is offering qualified educators an opportunity to join us in a joint venture in a full time or part-time capacity. If selected, you will be operating a unique business under the aegis of the SHCC in an exclusive territory.   As owner of the business, you will see the equity of your business grow through your efforts and the natural growth of the company in the coming years. When the time is right, you may want to sell your territory, goodwill and client base as an ongoing business venture.   (There are some conditions, however, that must be met before you can sell the business and these will be discussed in greater detail with interested parties.)

How much do I have to invest ?

The School House Curriculum Centre wants all associates to be sure that this opportunity makes financial and professional sense to them. Consequently, we  offer each associate the opportunity to work as one of our agents before committing to purchasing one of our associate offerings. If you elect to start off as an associate-agent, there is no initial purchase fee to obtain this business. However, that does not mean that there are no start up costs. Associates will have to purchase their business cards and pay for their initial advertising campaign. This will cost approximately $500 to $1000. In addition, all associates must have a computer, a printer and a high speed internet connection. Associates who participate in this "associate-agent" program will be given a designated territory to work for a period of 9 months  After that time, the associate may choose to withdraw from this business opportunity, remain as an agent or sign a new continuation agreement and purchase his territory. The price of the business is determined by the size of the territory.

How does being an associate compare with independently owned businesses?

Statistics show that 80% of associate and franchise businesses are still operating after five years; while only 16% of independent businesses are still in operation.

Do I need to have a teaching background?

A teaching background is essential for a number of the services that we offer. As an associate, you will be required to provide curriculum resources for your defined area of specialization. Other associates will provide resources for the other areas in which you lack the necessary skills and knowledge. In this manner each associate's contributions are used by the whole organization. You are one cog in a very big wheel, but each cog is indispensable.

What kind of training does the School House Curriculum Centre offer to prospective associates?

All successful associate applicants will be required to attend a training course that will deal with all aspects of the business. There is no charge for the training. However, associates are responsible for any travel expenses as well as binders and other materials.

Can an associate work part-time as well as full time?

Because our program has so many facets, it is hoped that our associates will dedicate themselves to work full time. In this manner an associate has the best opportunity to reap the maximum rewards. However, we realize that some associates may be in a period of transition and can best take on this endeavor by starting out on a part-time basis  Consequently, the SHCC allows associates to work part-time basis for a maximum of 10 months..

How do I know if I am "associate" material?

If you like to be part of a team and like to follow a standard proven format, you will be an excellent member of our team.

Do I get an exclusive territory and can my territory grow?

The School House Curriculum Centre provides a protected territory to each associate when they begin. Every associate has the ability to expand his territory. All of the business owners, administrators, teachers, parents and students found within your territory are your potential clients.

Do I need employees?

As the owner of your business, you will operate the business and be actively involved in all day-to-day operations. Depending on your background, you may have to hire support staff. The School House Curriculum Centre has a list of workshop presenters that an associate may access when needed. As your business grows, you may have to add more staff as demand warrants.

How long will it take before I get my School House Curriculum Centre business started?

The start-up time depends on a number of variables, including the number of prospective associates on our waiting list. However, once you sign an associate agreement and your location is determined, you should be operational in about 30 days.

Do I pay a royalty and what does the royalty relate to?

Yes, all business associates pay a royalty to the School House Curriculum Development Centre. The royalty is that portion of the gross revenue that is earned by the School House Curriculum Centre because the brand, marketing, services and products have brought the customer, and the operating system has helped you to service and keep him.

What about advertising?

Building recognition of your business and the School House Curriculum Centre is an essential objective that benefits everyone. Your contribution to the advertising fund will keep the image and awareness of the School House Curriculum Centre in customers’ minds.

Who decides what prices I will charge for products and services?

The School House Curriculum Development Centre sets the price for all products and services.

How much can I expect to earn as a School House Curriculum Development Centre associate?

Your potential to earn a professional income is dependent on your efforts and determination. Everyone has different interpersonal skills, contacts and business acumen and the extent that these interplay in the business world makes it impossible to directly predict an exact earning.  However, you have a large number of revenue streams that should provide you with unlimited opportunities. An associate's remuneration is based on a percentage of sales within the territory.

  • revenues from teacher memberships,
  • revenues from parent memberships,
  • revenues from workshop presentations,
  • revenues from newsletter subscriptions,
  • revenues from business partnerships,
  • revenues from Book of Resources for Grades,
